I imagine, though can’t confirm, that you can buy anti-malarial tablets in various pharmacies across Colombia. Medicines such as Lariam / Mefloquine and Doxycycline would be easier to find and much less expensive than Malarone (Atavaquone Proguanil). To get the most conservative view as to whether you ought to be concerned about malaria in any specific area in Colombia at the time of your travels — and which medicines to take or to avoid because they are ineffective — check out the Centers for Disease Control website here:

We’re travelling to Colombia next month – December ’16 – and are booked to walk to the Ciudad Perdida between Christmas and New Year. We gather that anti malarial tablets are not required for that trip, or for the rest of Tayrona park, Cartagena, Santa Marta or Bogota.

I wonder if you can advise whether we can buy malarial tablets (Malarone or Lariam) in Colombia if we decide to go to an area where mosquitoes carry malaria?
