Thanks, Stefanie, for your kind words about our article! From our experiences in Botswana and Namibia we know how important it is for self-driving travelers to be fully prepared for how to take care of basic car repairs, camping/outdoor gear, and just being self-sufficient in remote areas.

Thank you for the well researched article about Botswana!
I am a German national and I have lived in Botswana for 5 years (due to my husbands work) and I have never stopped missing it. I have opened a travel agency in Germany with a focus on self-driving Botswana and the surronding countries. If you self-drive and mix camping and lodges the experience can be even more interesting and more affordable. So – if you should ever want to visit the region without a sponsor I would be more than happy to help with booking and organizing. Also I give my customers a brochure which tells them exactly what to bring and expect in each location. During my Botswana years I met a self-driving family from Europe who were very ill equipped for their trip. They didn’t know there was no drinking water in the area where we met them and no shops so we gave them some of our water and lamps. This was when I decided I would like do this better one day (prepare people for their trips) and started thinking about my agency for the first time!
Best wishes from Thuringia!
Stefanie

True that. We were just sharing our fascination of the Okavango Delta and its seasonal cycle with a friend the other day. Remarkable. No surprise it comes up in conversation when we consider some of the more remarkable places we’ve been.

Not sure how we missed this, Julian. When you go to Botswana, these locations should not be missed. Hope you have a chance to see it. Would look forward to hearing about your experience. (As for the map, we bought it years ago at a weekend flea market in Frankfurt..while on a road trip from Prague.)

I am a local, who is keen on selling the strong points of my country Botswana. Certainly, we have a lot of weak points, but I like your having chosen to maintain a positive spin of Botswana. Such a gesture raises the spirit (and profile) of a people. I hope you will also visit other parts of Botswana such as the Kalahari Trans-frontier Park in the south-western part of Botswana, the Old Palapye gorges in the east of Botswana, the Kgalagadi region to the west and the vast southern and central parts of Botswana where you can come into contact with the general populace and natural Botswana. As an ordinary citizen I am gratified by your taking your time visit Botswana and write so well about us. Thank you so much to you and your team. God bless you.

I heard lots of beautiful things about the Okavango Delta & the Kalahari Desert, seen numerous documentations. Thanks for the inspiration, really feel like visiting now – Botswana could be our first trip to Sub-Saharan Africa!
By the way, how did you end up having a 1959 East German school map of Africa?
