As such, its not easy to get outside of Dhaka. Your best bet is to buy it at the duty free shop as you come out of customs at the international airport in Dhaka. I bought 1L of Absolute vodka for $18US a few days ago.

This is a useful website that gives some more information and a couple Duty Free places in Dhaka.

If you happen to run out of your precious spirits bought from the Duty Free and you’re still in Dhaka – head on over to the Bluemoon Recreation Club, Green Deluxe, 3rd Floor (on the northwest corner of Rd 11 and Rd 12), Block #E, Road #11, Dhaka. Its a hole in the wall bar on the 3rd floor of what looks like an office building that serves booze. You’ll come out smelling like cigarettes. Hunter’s Beer (Bangladesh Local Beer) = 200 Taka. They will sell you alcohol to take away. For comparison I asked how much the same bottle of Absolute was and it was about 2.5 times as expensive as the duty free at the airport. I took away the Hunter’s beer at 200 Taka a can. Not the best beer but whatever. You can get Foster’s as well but I think it was double the price.

The Hotel Orchard Suites in Daka also has Singha and Heineken at their restaurant although not advertised in the menu. I sat down to have dinner here and they offered it to me, otherwise I never would have known it was an option. 400 + tax and service fee per can though.

I’m currently in Khulna and this place seems to be dry as a bone.

Hope that helps those that love their booze!
Enjoy.

Thank you, Saadman. We love a good biryani. Perhaps we just didn’t find the right one during all of our Bangladeshi food experiences in country.

I am from Bangladesh but currently living in the States. I must say that I am very impressed by your blog and it’s accuracy, while I could continue reiterating all the good things you’ve said, all this food just made me very nostalgic. You must try some good Biriyani though because it makes me sad you didn’t like it that much. They are amazing and you must try again ASAP as you’re missing out!

Thank you again for the blog and a genuine experience. Loved reading it!

Best,
Saadman.
