We even occasionally found ourselves walking the streets of Oaxaca late sometimes (1AM-3AM) and felt totally safe from the center of town to the neighborhood where we lived. I really think it all depends on using some common sense (as you suggest) in combination with some awareness and an assessment of circumstances on the ground.

Benjamin, we did not create the map in this article or choose which countries were given certain colors. We intended to question the map and also the general public’s reaction to it. I hope that helps clarify.

Thank you! A quick look at the ole’ Facebook feed and here lately it is filled with so much fear, uncertainty, and doubt, that it’s maddening! It makes me want to scream “when did we all become such cowards?!?”. Perhaps coward is a strong word there, but you get the point of what I’m saying… we’re not meant to live our lives in fear, but rather in curious discovery.
