I hear you. We do the same.

Know that we (and other mindful travelers/hikers/trekkers) are grateful for people like you!

Sadly, we’ve seen the trash on our hikes – sometimes within feet of a garbage bin. When we can, we bring a bag just for picking up other people’s trash.

I hear you, Joel. Surprising to see visitors so checked out as to the impact of their behaviors. We’d be interested to hear what Owen Island does (or does not do) to maintain its “perfection”.

Fair point. All the more reason that awareness and education seem crucial to the informed way forward. Especially for those with audiences in India, an opportunity.

As tourists, we often don’t pay attention to the impact we have on the local environment. As you point out, even the most idyllic beaches are ruined when ignorant tourists drop litter. I discovered this when I visited Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef and saw a tourist throw a plastic bottle on the sand. Luckily, my favourite beach in the Cayman Islands – Owen Island – is still picture-perfect.

The first time I experienced over tourism was when I was in Paris two summers ago. Versailles was virtually unseeable due to infinite amounts of massive tour groups. Definitely going to look into more localized tourism next summer.

But with increased population there is no way around this, especially In countries like India.
